The Prospecton brewery in Durban is one of the most modern breweries in the southern hemisphere. Opened in 1974 the brewery continues the long tradition of brewing in the KwaZulu-Natal province, which dates back to the 1800s.

SAB Ltd is the South African arm of the SAB Miller group, the second largest brewer in the world, and Prospecton benefits from the expertise that being part of such a successful company brings. Under the supervision of general manager Andrew Ferrett, Prospecton brews more than 400- million litres of Castle Lager, Castle Draught, Castle Lite, Castle Milk Stout, Hansa Pilsener, Amstel Lager and Redd’s Premium Dry and Cold annually.

Products are packaged in returnable bottles, non- returnable bottles, cans and kegs of varying size on six high-tech bottling lines.

Offers for the visitor to the Beer Route:
- Daily guided tours are available. Visitors are taken through the brewing and packaging process, and are invited to enjoy a beer in the brewery’s pub after the tour.
- Beer tasting and appreciation sessions can be arranged.
